Profile

Oaktree was founded in 1995 by several professionals from the Trust Company of the West, including Howard Marks, Bruce Karsh, Sheldon Stone, Larry Keele, Richard Masson and Stephen Kaplan. The founders brought over 90 percent of their TCW staff.
The alternative asset firm’s investment strategies include high yield bonds, convertibles, distressed debt, emerging market stocks, power infrastructure, real estate and principal investing.

Oaktree sold a 15 percent stake in its firm for $880MM to institutional investors via Goldman Sach’s Tradable Unregistered Equity market in May of 2007.

Oaktree has nine principals and 380 other professionals; headquartered in LA, with offices in New York, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Stamford, Luxembourg (affiliate office) and Beijing.
