Satin black shirts unbuttoned halfway down are not particularly elegant (for men).
Toasts are a delicate affair and should not be abused. Try to limit yourself to one or two per dinner. Above all, avoid the drunk toast.
Clinking glasses should not degenerate into some form of table game.

Being of Slavic roots myself, I can assure you that like in every other culture, among Russians there are people with very different backgrounds and values. Russian people you mostly meet in NYC are immigrants that rarely associate themselves with Russian culture anyway: they only share common language- Russian, hence they call themselves Russians:-) Although I have to agree with Arbite360 about Russian naievite, which I think is kind of cute if you are a woman:-)…
