Win a Chance to Apply for an I-Banking Internship! (Or Aleksey Vayner’s Last Laugh)

Aleksey, maybe you were on to something. At least the folks over at Vault seem to think so. They’re holding a very Vayner-esque contest — the Wall Street Video Resume Challenge.

Five top resumes will be posted on the Vault homepage, and not only will you get the chance to be ridiculed by millions, your video resume will also be delivered by Vault’s editors to their “network of hiring managers for investment banking summer analysts.” Yes, you’re applying for the chance to apply for a job. Just want to make sure we’re all clear about that.

Those expecting to see Aleksey-style 360s and ballroom dancing should check out some of the sample video resumes, which, cruelly, appear to be actual video applications that people have sent in to apply for jobs at the Vault.

We actually think this is a fun idea and look forward to some resume fodder. As Mark Oldham, cofounder of Vault, puts it to the NYSun, “We’re reclaiming the video résumé for the forces of good … Clips of bench-pressing and pontificating about life philosophies won’t be rewarded.” (Sidenote: but isn’t that what made the Vayner video so popular? It’s like trying to make a boring viral video.)

Although video resumes remind us of grade school (stand around blathering in front of your camcorder and we’ll call that a “project”), the Sun has a Citigroup bigwig on record as saying that a video resume could be a good idea, especially for things like international hiring.

Apps are due by 2/8. And don’t forget to turn that frown upside down.

I am a bit late in reading this post. Interesting contest. Isn’t video resume going to be a future trend? As a headhunter, I am still focusing on ‘written’ resumes.
