NYC in 2nd … Behind Tokyo

All the furor over London, meanwhile it’s Tokyo that we’ve got to be worried about. Or so the Economist reports on a PWC study that estimates city GDP for 2020. And yes, NYC is in second, even now. So it’s status quo for us. London, currently in sixth, is expected to be in fourth.

Sure, it doesn’t necessarily mean finance dominance, but if things get bad, we can always fall back on “but by what measure?”

Top cities, by estimated GDP, 2020 (current position)
1. Tokyo (1)
2. NYC (2)
3. Los Angeles (3)
4. London (6)
5. Chicago (4)
6. Paris (5)
7. Mexico City (8)
8. Philadelphia (9)
9. Osaka/Kobe (7)
10. Wa, D.C. (10)

A number of “Osaka-Kobe” of the British company is a mistake. I sent a protest email to PwC. Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto (Kansai) urban area equals Los Angeles by 2005, and it is the 3rd place. Aichi(Nagoya)urban area should belong under the 10th place, in 2005. I think Fukuoka urban area to enter within the 50th place from the 30th place. I write it precisely.

    3th Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto
    Ppopulation 17,000,000
    GDP: 600 billion dollars.

    10th Aichi(Nagoya) urban area
    population 9,400,000
    GDP: about 300 billion dollar.
