Business School Rankings 2007

We’ve been getting a number of “corrections” on our old B-school rankings, so I guess it’s time to compile and publish this year’s instead of forcing everyone to look at the old lists. Keep in mind that the WSJ, BusinessWeek and the Economist seem to come out with their rankings in the fall, so they were left blank. This year we have added the FT.

Ties have been indicated with the rank in parentheses. Also, the BankersBall made-up ranking has also been left off for now … waiting to see how the rest of the pubs stack up.

You seem to have skipped Wharton (#3) in the US News ranking.

Businessweek rankings come out every other year, not every year. They last updated their rankings in fall 06, so there won’t be an update until fall 08.

I agree with FT rankings as they are the only rankings to seriously consider international schools and area also the rankings that everyone looks at in London (where I am from)!

If my quick read is correct, the only 2 schools in the top 10 of the 3 surveys shown are U. of Chicago and Columbia. Of course one has to question what WSJ was smoking, but hey, I’ll take it. Indisputable is what school produced the most noble laureates? Or for that matter most Goldman execs, and the CEO of Credit Suisse? That’s right — U of Chicago.

The WSJ rankings are stupid. They ask a wide range of employers where they prefer to recruit - well, surprise, many of them don’t like to recruit at Harvard or Wharton because they never get anyone, and they’d rather recruit at UNC or Carnegie-Mellon. If you are a meatpacking company looking for a middle manager, fine, but as a student looking for a job in banking, consulting, hedge funds, private equity, etc., you are obviously better off going to Harvard, Wharton, or Stanford.

For jobs in the US, US News is the only ranking that matters.

does it make sense that FT doesn’t have MIT in the top 10? behind NYU and Tuck??

You know that Tuck and Dartmouth are the same school right? Or to be more specific, it is the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
