Bballe About Town: WSV’s Fundraiser at the Runway

One of our Chicago-based readers recently wrote in requesting more coverage of NYC financier nightlife. You ask? We answer.

You may recall that we did a little quiz/giveaway for free tickets to Wall Street Volunteers’ fundraiser at the Runway Lounge. Well, nonprofit WSV graciously provided tickets for several readers and their guests (we hope you attended) — as well as a few representatives of BBalle — to their event, which took place yesterday evening.

So for the benefit of our Chi-town fan, Runway is in the Flatiron district. What was the feel? So the event started at 8pm. We arrived around 8:30pm. It was PACKED. Estimated crowd — complete guess — was about 150 - 200. Cute girls, cute guys, all eyeing each other. Age range seemed to be about 25-35, thought some outliers. Lots of dudes in suits (what happened to bizcash?) and lots of girls who looked like they went home and changed before coming. Nothing wrong there; dress to impress as they say (yuk yuk yuk!!! back slap!) Bartenders were very efficient; drinks were procured rapidly.

In fact as we waited to be admitted (velvet rope, line moved very quickly), we noticed a gaggle of girls chicks and were tempted to ask, “hey, you must be models to be going to Runway” but decided that was stupid. Never drink on an empty stomach!

One question: who exactly are all of these hard-charging bankers who can leave work at 8pm??? Back to work afterwards? ;)

Favorite song of the evening: “Come on shake your body baby, do the conga / I know you can’t control yourself any longer / Come on, shake your body baby, do the conga” (did that really play or was I trashed already?)

Favorite overheard line of the evening: “Who isn’t at a hedge fund?”

Thanks for a fun evening, guys!

Ahh, the girls in dresses had me cracking up from 2 blocks away as they all got out of cabs adjusting themselves in their too-tight DVF knock-offs…don’t try so hard next time to get your MRS.
