The 40-yo Frat Boys of the Hamptons

Seems several readers reacted strongly to that story about Cougars and their young i-banker prey. Well, someone at the NYT translated that exact level of overweight, aged British yeeech into her skeezy 40+ yo NYC male counterpart and wrote an article about it. So let’s be a little equal opportunity and turn our fear of death and aging in general into criticism towards these Papa Fratties.

Instead of being far-off, flabby creatures with dubious powers of attraction, these male cougars are summer share addicts who can’t leave the Hamptons party, ever. And are probably living and breathing among you … they may be your coworkers, they may be part of your extended social circle, they may be you in a few years.
And yes, the male ones also date i-bankers. Why don’t these lonely i-bankers just date each other and drop the fogies?

“John Ivers, 42, did not want to commit. His girlfriend of a year, a 25-year-old investment banker he met at a bar in the Hamptons, wanted to join his summer house in Amagansett, a five-bedroom modified Cape Cod he shares with about 20 others, male and female … Mr. Ivers, who has been in 14 share houses over the years, turned her down, although the relationship continues for now.”

Ivers (a “stock trader”) is even on the young side of this phenomenon. There’s also Dave Mahony, 42, (”an unmarried psychologist who lives in Staten Island, said he had joined a share house because a female friend told him it was stocked with oodles of single women and few men”) and Erick Rock (48!!!).

Now, older men dating young men is no new thing, but there’s something very melancholy about these stories that makes me want to hurry up and get married. And never go to the Hamptons again.

It’s a precautionary tale of knowing when to leave the party

Went to a singles mixer and watched a bleach blonde woman in her late 40s working the room. It looked bad.

Did you mean “older men dating young women”, or is there a twist to the story I missed?

As a guy you just have to learn when to give up the chase.. you just have to stop being a horn-dog… not easy at all to do… find a woman you like and stick to it…. not easy in a big city like NY were every 5 minutes you see a pretty girl…. to think people not so long ago use to get married in their teens or at most twenties and have several kids by their 30s…

There is no such thing as a male cougar. Older guy dating younter girl = most guys.

Older woman going after younger guy = weird, and a cougar.
