Models, I-Bankers, Celebrities Welcome at Double Happiness

The Chinatown fixture Double Happiness (173 Mott) is getting a $1MM upgrade to make itself more appropriate for folk like you. Says NYMag: entrepreneur Emma Cleary is aiming to attract “successful and upscale clientele” to the bar, as opposed to the “lower east side crowd.” (Question: isn’t that the same thing as the lower east side crowd?)

Continues Cleary in a missive to the neighborhood: “They are largely young professionals in the financial industry with whom I share mutual respect and cooperation.” Cleary, with her partner, an MD at JP Morgan, will transform the upstairs space into a restaurant.

Eater previously reported that the bar, where 25th Hour was filmed, was for sale with a $450,000 fixture price tag and monthly rent of $13,500.
