Interacted with this company on several opportunities. Absolutely horrible. Made no effort to put me in front of employers. I’m in a very specific field (biotechnology) with both a VC and public equity investing background, and the recruiter sat on my resume for 2 full months before putting my resume before a VC fund looking for a guy like me. Needless to say, that was too late.

In sum: NEVER timely, not smart, and no salesmanship.

These guys are so overrated-and to say the least filled with uneducated people. They can sit on a resume till someone else puts you in front of the hiring company. Absolutely horrible culture/behaviour especially from some west coast people at this firm.

Glocap is just a poor across the pond. Dealt with the firm about a year ago and the calibre of people I interacted with was pathetic to say the least.

Not even sure who they place. Better off (if a BB analyst) with CPI/Oxbridge/SG

I had a very poor experience as well. They are full of themselves and don’t seem to have the positions open they claim on their website. I would recommend using css-llc.net, CPI, or Oxbridge, all were more professional and had real job openings.

Glocap is the worst of the pack. Someone mentioned west coast but look at their offices in NY. Recruiters are almost like sorority snops and expremely class less. Either these people get paid bad or they have a bad work ethic. This company is just a victim of some of its own little success. I would recommend any other recruiter over these guys. It’s just a bad experience. A friend of mine told me that she interacted with one of the VP (blah!) called Liz and she says the woman sounded drunk during the day time and could not even talk about the posting she had mailed about preiously. How do they hire such incompetent people?

I found their team actually to be very helpful. I put up my resume and was called within a few days…had a great buy side role 3 weeks later and never looked back!

I didn’t seem to have such a bad experience. I actually thought they had some really good insights into the market and ultimately lined me up with a number of interviews. Could it be just a few people giving the firm a bad name?

  9. On Oct 31, 2007, Manhattanite said:

they sent me on ONE interview a few months ago a few days after meeting a rep. didn’t get the job b/c the company chose someone who could start in a more “junior capacity”. so they wanted someone less qualified, but then glocap wouldn’t send me on any other interviews that i was clearly qualified for, or sat on my resume for months and was never sent to the companies. it’s been 3 months now, and that first interview has been the only one.

there’s just no communication AT ALL between the girl i met with or myself, no matter how many times i contact her.

They hire idiots because the founder and boss is an idiot. Doh! So please from now on whenever you say a workplace is filled with rude worthless placemats, look at the boss. The boss will embody all the lack you can find in the universe.

Extremely arrogant, unresponsive and generally useless firm with an undeservedly high opinion of itself. Would not take a call from them if I were hiring.

I got an email from their NYC office a month ago ago saying they wanted to meet with me ASAP. They suggested the following day. I replied to that email immediately with a suggested time on the day they had suggested (using BlackBerry) — within 5 minutes of their sending. Called, trying to confirm (I had a date, but no time set). Emailed again. The time I had suggested came and went. Never heard from them again. Like a jilted bride, I had gotten out my interviewin’ clothes, shined my shoes, updated my deal sheet, practiced suavely answering questions etc. Making me feel like a loser didn’t improve my sentiments for this bunch. Of course, it’s just possible that the recruiter who contacted me was eaten by a komodo dragon within minutes of emailing me, and thus couldn’t confirm the appointment. I tend to lean towards believing that it was just bad manners, though.

Glocap is a horrible recruiting firm. Staff is unorganized and many of the jobs they post are off the market. Go ahead and submit your CV but don’t expect too much from these guys. There are much better recruiters out there who really do care about your career.

Awful. They scheduled me for an in-person interview in San Fran with one of their MDs, who never showed up. Instead, I was given a 15 min interview with some random headhunter a couple years out of school. This is after I had missed an entire morning of work commuting 1 hour from Palo Alto to SF. Also, note that I come from a top 3 undergrad, worked in BB ibank as an analyst, and subsequently at a top PE shop. They acted like they wouldn’t give me the time of day.

these guys used to be good about 4 years ago, now they act like their sh!t dont stink. completely unorganized, DO NOT contact qualified candidates, staff doesnt return calls….oerall a VERY poor recruiter. there are many other firms out there that are 100 times better than them.

I think much of the comments have already touched on the flaws of the organization. I am currently in the middle of a transition and these guys have done absolutely ZERO in terms of communication and working with me. There was a exec recruiter a few years back, but I heard she went to Harvard Business School - The young, talented, good ones always do. Now all is left is a cynical, unsupportive vp of search.

Good luck with this company. You’ll have to press them harder than if you had to get a job on your own.

Useless. Their site is useful for letting you know what’s out there, but that’s about it. You can apply thorugh it, but it’s a black hole of resumes. Your resume will sit on their inbox for months as either “Not yet evaluated” or “Under active consideration.”

A complete waste of time and effort. The amount of jobs they have is dwindling fast, now they mostly have temp admin assistants positions….seems everyone on Wall Street has finally figured out that they suck.

Nice website…but that’s all they have going for them. Several opportunities came up where I was a perfect match and I never even got a call.

I think they just make up the postings they have….some of them, over 4 months have passed since I applied and they say pending. No one returns your calls…its all smoke and mirrors….your gig is up Glocap

  21. On Jul 9, 2008, biggun said:

Very unresponsive. Submitted CV, got email requesting an interview, responded within the hour and finally got a call 3 weeks later to schedule meeting.

How’s this? Does anyone have any GOOD news about anyone getting a decent gig lately through a recruiter?

I spoke to Jennifer of the NY office. Only good thing to say about her is that she is pretty. The interview lasted less than 5 mins, and she asked me questions which I have already answered on the online profile anyway. She then told me to continue using this agency, along with many others. What the heck? I am qualified for several of the positions there. Anyway, I made my trip worth it with a venti caramel frap afterwards.

I completely agree with everyone. Glocap sucks. I have recently graduated from college with a high GPA from a great school, and as a double major in math and economics. I told them that I wanted a job in finance, and the recruiter told me that the best I could was become an admin assistant. Now I am being declined from every job I apply to on their site.

Looks like I’m not the only one being completely ignored here. I was really excited to work with them at first. Then these total dingbats from CA who didn’t know NJ from a hole in the wall started saying things to me about “oh you live 10 minutes from NYC? I know a lot of places that won’t hire you if you don’t live in NYC, they don’t especially like commuters” umm what? More than half of the jobs in NYC are taken by NJ residents…THANKS THOUGH LADIES! P.S. they are all from CA. Not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that, BUT if you are planning on working in the NY office, you might wanna brush up on some of your demographics. Try a map of your surroundings. I agree with the whole sitting on your resume for months at a time. I had applied for anything under the sun because I can’t stand my current job, but they all told me I can’t apply for things with the starting salary being over 50k. FYI it’s their job to find me a job therefore I would like to apply for whatever I feel I am qualified for. Don’t just turn me down because of how much you think I deserve…go scratch!!!!! My most recent “consider me’s” have either not yet been evaluated or were considered and declinded. Ok I’m sure I wasn’t considered but it’s nice that they put in such lovely terms, AND with the ones that have gone months with not yet being evaluated, will stay that way until the position has been filled…thanks GLOCAP, you guys are great!

Horrible!! That is the one and only word I have for this sad excuse for a firm. They are extremely arrogant, but should not be because most of the “recruiters” who work there went to second-rate schools and couldn’t tell you the difference between a hedge fund and a hedgerow. Its hard to believe it still exists.
The books they publish are also crap. The last thing I need to be reading is a high-level, summary of “how to get a job in PE”, step 1) you must be intelligent. Thanks for the insights Glo-Cap. Believe me, I will tell everyone I know and even those I don’t know that Glo-Cap is crap.

I was very successful with a smaller firm who was actually knowledgable, interested and enthusiastic about working with.

Can anyone suggest other recruiting firms in NYC that they’re happy with? I had to the same experiences. A bunch of cheerleaders with nothing behind them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow, glad to see others deal with the same experiences i have had with glocap. This agency is a joke. I signed up for their alerts about 4 years ago after graduating from college. Needless to say, I have never received a callback, a response, anything out of them. I have given up applying to these jobs, I would just love to see one thing before I die- the person who actually had a callback and was placed by Glocap into one of their fake advertised jobs.
Kidding. Glocap could go f themselves. I think the postings are fake and they are way too full of themselves.

After reading all of the reviews on this site and others, I was very hesitant to meet with Glocap when they called me to set up an in-person interview. But I went ahead and met with them and was so glad I went through with it! I found them to be pleasant, informative and genuinely interested in what I was looking for in a new position. We all know that review websites are extremely polarized - you only write something if you had a terrible experience or a really good one. Well, im in the latter so I felt compelled to write. I have already talked to a couple recruiters there about jobs and I’m interested in both! These people definitely know what they are doing.

  29. On Aug 26, 2008, Hmm said:

You guys do know Glocaps “JOB” is to fill the jobs they have contracts to fill and NOT to find you a job right? They have a vested interest in putting the BEST candidates in front of their clients, they have NO interest in YOU personally finding a job.

  30. On Aug 27, 2008, JenKurtz said:

I personally had a great experience with them too! I walked in and was booked for a number of interviews within days. My guess is that they are very pedigree and resume driven. Apparently their client base is very A level. (or at least thats my guess based on the interviews they sent me on)
Anyway- time will tell but so far so good!

PS I just went back and read some prior reviews…frankly im baffled by this…….I had such a different experience. My recruiter was a Harvard grad who was not only pretty, but smart. I didnt have a problem with that personally.

An absolute joke. Arrogant, unresponsive and grossly inconsiderate.

  32. On Oct 2, 2008, David said:

Just checking back in after a year. Frankly, I’m baffled by the implication from JenKurtz that the poor reviews are because the reviewers aren’t “A-list.”

I applied for a job through them, again, I have a very specific skill set–biotechnology buy & sell-side experience, PhD from top school in biochemistry, etc. There aren’t a lot of “me’s” around. Not being arrogant, but there just aren’t too many biochem PhD’s with all the brokers’ licenses and a few years of good experience. It took the recruiter two months to put me in front of a VC firm that was specifically looking for “someone with buy & sell-side experience and a PhD.” Two months. Again, needless to say by that time, they were deep in interviews with another candidate who eventually got the job (good for him).

They might place you because you have a cookie-cutter skill set (fresh MBA from Wharton after 2 years at Morgan stupid, er stanley, CFA, etc) but anyone else they can’t plug into their little search engine gets the shaft.

So, if you fall into the traditional 4 year undergrad, 2 year i-bank, 2 year MBA, and 2 year associate framework, try them out. I doubt though that even with that, you’ll get far.

This is hands down the worst recruiting firm of the pack. Try SG Partners, CPI or Oxbridge who have real jobs for real top tier candidates. Clearly they work on commission and only have their own interests at stake - not those of the candidates. Rude and terrible….and the folks are really really arrogant. Had horrible experiences with them as both a candidate and later a potential client. Go with one of the other firms.

  34. On Nov 13, 2008, anom said:

i have the same frustrations working with glocap, but what others have said is true - they will only contact you when they think you are the best candidate out of the thousands of resumes they receive for a particular position. i was placed by them after months and months of applying to positions on their site. and like others have also said, all recruiting firms work for their clients, not us.

  35. On Nov 20, 2008, Glocap Employee said:

Greetings to everyone out there! I work at Glocap (executive side) and would like to clarify a couple of things that I think get lost from the candidate side. I hope the following is helpful!!

Because most firms like CPI and SG don’t post their jobs on the web, they only reach out to those candidates who are specifically appropriate for any given search. While we could also operate that way and touch many fewer candidates, we have opted to remain more open and welcome the interest that a broad group of candidates indicate in our retained searches. Every job that you see online is a real one. We have never wavered from that. With 250 to 1,000 signups per job it is impossible to get back to every candidate - and someone who said that cookie cutter candidates do the best with us is right, for better or worse. We are incentivized to send EVERY appropriate candidate to our clients, but they tend to hold us to very explicit requirements in the resumes we send. When someone pays recruiting fees of $100K+ per hire, they have the right to dictate whatever requirements they like.

We do our best to be responsive, but unfortunately can’t reach out to everyone who would like to talk about their job search or the market.

I hear the frustrations, but do want you all to understand how the process works from our end. We don’t make the rules - our clients do - and we need to make sure we keep them happy. I wish I had unlimited time and could spend 30 minutes with all of the candidates who reach out to me, but with clients to satisfy, I have to stay focused on the candidates who are appropriate for my active searches.

PS: on the exec side, all of us have worked in the industry from which or into which we recruit, so I do think we have pretty solid industry knowledge!

  36. On Dec 18, 2008, Anon said:

So far, neutral. Brought in for one potential fit, after that - not much. Though I understand the difficulty in receiving many resumes for few opportunities for which clients are paying top dollar, the GPA and SAT threshold questions are… ridiculous. As someone who took the SAT’s 20 years ago, I find it a wee bit absurd that a test score from my ancient history when I was a pimply-faced teen should disqualify me off the bat for a position.

I’ll keep my resume active, but if Glocap actually places me, I’ll eat my hat.

Glocap has offices in NYC, LA, and Seattle. Also they pay really well for Administrative and Executive Assistant positions. Thanks.

Dying at these reviews. Their internal hiring person tried to convince me to come work for them. I found her to be abrasive, aggressive and a TOTAL DOG. Also, smoking crack by the things she was saying about the firm and how great they were and how they were the best in the market (NOT!)

  40. On Jan 4, 2009, Nate said:

Let me just specify how much of a joke this supposedly premier search firm is. I fit their typology of an Ivy League graduate (Wharton) with investment banking experience (Deutsche Bank). I apply to one of their hedge fund listings and after two days, am considered and declined. I then research the hedge funds that fit their description and found the website. It is a large fund with a careers section and I see the listing on there as well. I apply, get an interview and received an offer! I wonder why some of these firms even bother going to Glocrap.
