Feel that your resume is lacking a little je ne sais quois? New York-headquartered Investment Banking Institute to the rescue. The firm, in perhaps the first time we’ve ever seen someone quantify results in number of bullet points, says that after they’re through with you, you can add six bulleted skills to your empty little ressie. How’s that for results?
The IBI offers four-week programs (eight 3-hour sessions) that teach how to read financial statements, modeling, interview help as well as an overview of the banking process. Classes are held in New York and San Francisco and limited to 18 students per class.

Although i have no interest in becoming a banker, i took the course for the financial modeling skills and was worth every penny. The instructors are very knowledgeable and present a lot of material effectively. They are even willing to answer, and encourage, questions after the course is completed. I would highly recommend IBI.

Well done “David Karpa” - you’re one of them (paid?) trolls posting good stuff about said company.

Have any of you considered checking out Training The Street’s evening program? I’ve heard they are the best in the market. I know most of my friends in the investment banking industry have been trained by them.
They are launching an evening program in April and will probably do this instead of IBIs program.
People have said that Training The Street’s materials are much better than the IBI stuff.

Thanks “Better Options”, only you should have used your actual name so that when I call training the street I can ask for you. Oh wait, I just got it, it’s implied that training the street would be a ‘better option’, you’re so clever. Thanks for the blatant advertisement, and useless post.

HC - I am just a satisfied customer that thought that it would be helpful to others to give my opinion as I paid for and completed the course.

Just wanted to check if anyone has attended Ashish Kohli’s classes at IBI

Yes, I attended the IBI classes where Ashish Kohli was teaching. I also attended a few extra classes with other IBI instructors. It’s pretty cool actually, they’ll let you attend the program as many times as you want, even with different instructors. A little background about me: finance undergrad, 2 years in BS sales role, now distressed securities analyst since June. I liked Ashish’s teaching style, he really has great experience, and knows how to simplify the concepts in ways that are easy to comprehend, and understand in the time we had. I had no trouble keeping up. Don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of material they cover, and my (almost nonexistent) financial modeling skills were tested hard. Ashish was always happy to spend extra time with me, and I would consider him a friend now. I know I would not have been able to land my job without the help I received from IBI.
After the class, I figured why not re-attend some classes with the other instructors. Not that I needed to but I figured it couldn’t hurt and it’s their policy. It was really great to know that if it had taken longer to find a job, I could have gone back to IBI anytime to freshen up what they had taught me, and they were always willing to take another look at my resume even after I had 2 different people there help me with it. I don’t want to sound like I’m selling the program here, I’m just happy that I still have my job when I see the layoffs that have happened and I know I would not have been hired without this. I know there are other companies out there that do this; I did my due diligence before I signed up. I felt the most comfortable about the IBI program and for me at least, I know I made the right choice.

Actually I heard this program’s a joke. 2 of my friends paid for the course last week. They sais Ashish is overly abrasive. Everyone in the class looked frusturated.

I am thinking about taking the IBI training course. I already have an MBA in Finance but thought it would be a good way to fresh up my skills. Any thoughts about that program? Does this kind of stuff really help or what? How do employers regard this kind of training? Is it rather helpful or looked down upon in your resume? Thanks for the input!
