$5MM Beaver

The home for hard-charging Wall Streeters has cleaned up its act, and picked up a few foreigners along the way.

Well, we might have mocked the Beaver House, that Andre Balazs concoction in the Financial District, but the building is selling … some units, at least. The hotelier has beaten his previous sales record of a $4.7MM unit in the building (penthouse, sold, this summer to a Spanish businessman), by selling Apts A and B on the 47th floor (whatever that means) for $5MM to a “wealthy Scandinavian financier,” reports the NYObserver.

Balazs had previously described his vision for a typical Beaver House resident as, “hard-driving young Wall Streeters who work late at the office, eat out a lot and would welcome coming home to a like-minded community.”

Technically, the building is called “William Beaver House” and you can check out listings here. Though browsing the building’s site again, the message seems to be significantly more toned done than before — the scandalous anime style sketches have been replaced by a stately white-and-gold color palette. And the Beaver mascot isn’t getting much play anymore, either.

Curbed documented this change back in June of this year, hypothesizing that the changeover from Corcoran to Core Group Marketing might have had a role.

Says Balazs,

“First off, not many people get—focus on that. It’s utter descriptiveness,” he said, meaning that “Beaver” refers simply to the address. “We like beavers, they’re very industrious creatures. And, frankly, they’re such an important part of New York.”
