Dooing your Stang Gets Pricey

A reader tips us off to an unusual move by the ibanker-heavy professional networking site Doostang.
Check out the fees below to contact users. Just thank your lucky stars that they decided to put that red slash through the $999. I imagine the fees are directed towards financial recruiters who seem to be using the site quite heavily. But the same goes for LinkedIn, which is, if anything, just as used (if not more) by recruiters, but one can’t help but notice the price difference.

It seems like anything that’s in high demand from I-bankers will be marked up precipitously. For further reference, see apartments in Murray Hill/UES, bottle service at Marquee, cocaine and bespoke suits.
…and FIRST!

Hi, my name is Nat Chambers and I’m the Community Relations Manager at Doostang. In response to the above posting, there are a couple of nuances in each business model that are not being clearly articulated. First, LinkedIn charges $200/month for up to 50 contacts whereas the subscription plan on Doostang allows you to contact unlimited users. Second, in addition to being able to search profiles, one also has the option of searching both resumes and Selected Practice Groups, which are groups made up of highly qualified members pre-screened by recruiters in their respective verticals.
In addition, another factor that motivated our decision is that we’ve had user complaints about being spammed by recruiters. Protecting our users and their privacy is extremely important to us, and therefore we want to make sure that they are only being contacted by serious recruiters.
As a final note, I would like to point out that it is still free to search both within all networks to which you belong and by name. You can still network with alums, co-workers and people with similar interests as well as participate in forums and join groups. We are certainly open to feedback regarding this new release, so please do not hesitate to contact me at nat AT doostang DOT com.
