Given the likelihood that many of you are job hunting, we’re wondering if it would be useful as a community to do some public resume critiquing. This is not a new idea — there are plenty of pay-for services and it looks like there’s a site dedicated to it now. However, resumes for the Street are a specific matter and arguably you need to get your resume critiqued by a very select group, (i.e. BBallers).

What we are proposing is that those interested would submit an anonymized resume to our site, and we unleash it to the audience. (Those of you who want your resume critiqued, either comment below or go ahead and send your resume to editor at bankersball dot com.)

Now, as you know from our Ask BBallers series, the feedback on this site can be pretty rough. So no turning around and complaining because someone writes something a little mean about it.

So, BEFORE SENDING, do the following:

1 - Ask yourself, “are you a wimp?” If the answer is “yes”, then do not send.
2 - REMOVE your name, address and other unique identifiers.
3 - GENERICIZE your company names, i.e. “bulge bracket bank” or “NY-based private equity firm” etc.
4 - GENERICIZE your deals.
5 - FUZZ out your graduation dates (leave the schools)
6 - PRESERVE your resume hobbies and formatting. These areas are often deserving of major criticism.
7 - IDENTIFY what type of job/firm you are trying to land.
