De Bankier Spreekt: At the End of the Day…

What would happen if you just started saying “when the day is over”?

Bankier Spreekt: At the end of the day…

Definition: ATEOTD is not entirely without function. In terms of meaning, there’s very little there, but one saving grace is that the ATEOTD speaker tends to signal to the listener that — guess what? Discussion’s ova! (See also, “When all is said and done” — a more dated version of ATEOTD; as well as It is what it is, similar in tone but lacking the temporal aspect)

Example:
Joe: Why did the chicken cross the road?
Schmo: At the end of the day, we all have to get to the other side.

Yes - in the final analysis, we at last have to cut through the cliches in the end, to get to the bottom line net-net.
