Closing Dinner > Closing Cup of Coffee?

Been getting a lot of lunch invitations these days? You’re not the only one.

As banks crack down on extreme expensing, bankers are looking for other ways to entertain. The Deal reports that while there may be fewer closing dinners going on, bankers are falling back on power lunches. One private equiteer tells the Deal that bankers are in “career management” mode: “All these guys need references … If they’re out on the street they may be looking for new jobs, or they need us for references or leads on new banks.”

But even then, classics like the 21Club are seeing “less entertaining at lunch, and fewer IPO launches,” spokeswoman Diana Biederman tells the Deal.

So what have you been doing to entertain? Power breakfasts? Maybe a power bike ride or jog in Central Park? How about a power shave … or better yet, a power platza?
