C’mon… I did 6 years in the Navy and this smells of bullshit in several places. Be honest here man, I know we bullshit like crazy in the military, but lying here can get you fired, or at least called out and embarrassed in an interview.

Get rid of the diamonds and use round bullets, and be more succinct. Get rid of the objective. Don’t list each “learning module” and instead use one sentence that makes all that crap sound impressive. C’mon.. “E-Mail Ettiquite??” Nobody gives a fuck. List your rate +(E-4)instead of “Petty Officer”

And if you graduated Summa cum Laude from Colombia, why the hell did you go enlisted?? Was this reserve duty?? If so, you need to mention that.

It’s misleading to put columbia college - this is the school in Missouri, not in NYC. You will be called out on this

punctuality is not a qualification…or even a skill.

#1 Also need to put the city in the education section. Seems that you are trying to mislead people into thinking that Columbia College = the college at Columbia University.

#2 You had a SECRET security clearance… Right. And I generated 100digit returns in a secret book at a secret hedge fund using a secret strategy.

#3 Wall Street loves ex-military types, but I am not sure being a training officer will cut it for a front office position. Having been in the Navy doesn’t help either. Try to rephrase that section to make it look more ‘manly’.

ANY military background will help, especially being an officer.

Pretty much all members of the military hold secret clearances. It is required for serving actively in any position that handles mission material (i.e., typically combat)

I would get rid of everything under “additional qualifications”

also, “Balancing Your Personal and Professional Life” and those other “government learning modules” sound awful.

You were in a guard/reserve unit that was activated? I’m not sure if including that would be helpful, its just a question I have after reading the resume.

I kind of like this one. Not sure what the back story is. But simple, solid qualifications. In a better hiring environment I’d say it’s a good shot for a decent MM boutique.

Not a military guy, but how the hell were you serving in the Navy and an Analyst at the boutique bank at the same time? Reserves? Please clarify.

If you have indeed worked as a full time analyst for the bank, that needs to go above Navy experience.

Agree with previous poster, details provide details on Columbia College. I am not dumb enough to think its the Columbia, so the lack of full disclosure makes you seem sneaky.

Also, drop objective (i hate those), Wall Street Prep (total garbage) and the last two objectives. Punctuality is a given, and SECRET clearance means nothing to me.

Seeking a position as an analyst? I should say so. Because according to your resume, you ARE an analyst! So technically, anything you do, you do “as an analyst.”

Agree with the other posters. Reserve duty is admirable and a quality trait that will make you look good to any recruiter, but you need make that clear, because you can’t be on active duty AND an analyst at the same time.

This resume, and its poster, is weak. If you didn’t go to HYP, and get a job at a BB right out of college in the heady years of ‘06, ‘07, you should be euthanized, or atleast you should euthanize your thoughts of a career in i-banking. The industry is down-sizing now, better practice saying “would you like fries with that?” or get back to getting your ass shot-up. Peace bitches.

Where do I start? I was hopeful when I saw Navy, though clearly you have a lot of work to do with this resume. Periods only come at the end of full sentences - make sure this is consistent throughout. Way too many section breaks, and I agree with those who point out “Columbia College” is misleading. Get rid of or skinny down the crap about learning modules – I know exactly what you are talking about and they are useless. Also, didn’t anyone else notice the WSP line? “Certification of in blah blah blah.” Come on man that just can’t happen on a resume. Finally, if you’ve been working for two years at a bank, you’ve got to have some additional bullet points that are better than what you have there.

Held a Secret Security Clearance, haha. Who gives a F. Moreover, present work up top, watch the diamonds, cut the f’in last section, condense your points to concise statements with purpose. Good awards, Good achievements, Cut the BullS*it…

Get rid of the objective, Columbia college (don’t try to pull one over on interviewers, they have some of the finest tuned bullshit detectors), no one cares if you worked a 15 hour day (some people have pulled multiple all nighters because #VALUE plagued the s/s or some other issue), get rid of the excel crap (you should be able to use excel without the mouse and have a basic to intermediate understanding of VBA and Macros. You dont need to be some Indian/Asian quant virgin).

Respect to US country service, but the SECRET Security? If you really had that, then you would never mention it because it would compromise the security itself.

Good luck getting anything related to banking in this economy. People are cutting the fat not adding to it.

Ok, I am a Navy officer (now in the IRR, but formerly on active duty) and I’d throw this one directly in the trashbin. First off, EVERYONE gets a Global War on Terror and National Defense medal. The guy doesn’t have a single personal award. Then, with the chronology as presented, it looks like the guy did only two years. To me, that suggests he bellyached his way out of his enlistment term. And, hey, congratulations on that sharpshooter award. *rolleyes* I’m not sure what you should do about the “military” experience. I’d be concerned that you would confuse a civilian and anger a former military person reviewing it.
