Lehman’s Layoffs: 1,000 - 1,500 Expected

The official number should come out in the next few days.

NYT that Lehman Brothers is planning on laying off 1,500 employees, or 6 percent of its workforce.

Bloomberg reported a slightly lower number — 1,000 employees. The official announcements are expected to come during Lehman’s Q3 call.

Lehman laid off about 1,400 people in March; in the last 12 months, 6,400 have been sacked.

The big question isn’t how may Lehman is laying off, but what part of the bank they come from… Are these back-office cost-cutting measures or are some of these whole divisions of institutional securities?
