Middle-market focused private equity firm founded in 1968. A team of 22 senior investment professionals manage $2.4BN and work out of offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.

Investment targets include largely US and European-based businesses in the following sectors: value-added industrial (including manufacturing, service, and distribution), specialty chemicals, consumer products and related services.

Chaired by Vincent Mai, who was a co-head of investment banking at Lehman Brothers. The firm was started by the Rockefeller, Mellon, and Harriman families.

Recruiting

Before joining AEA, associates have generally completed two to three years of work experience and have earned undergraduate degrees from a leading university. Associates typically spend two to three years at AEA before entering leading graduate business schools or pursuing other interests. AEA views the associate program as an important means by which to identify and develop future senior investment professionals of the firm. Currently, two managing directors, one principal, and four vice presidents have been promoted from the associate program.
