Scoretop Saga: 84 Test-Takers Busted

Some will get to retake the test.
If you haven’t been following the Scoretop scandal, here it is in a nutshell: GMAC went after Scoretop, a sketchy website that solicited and advertised “live” GMAT questions. The site was shut down in June. After much controversy and alarm over the “VIP” members of Scoretop and “jungle juice” (JJs), the outcome is this: 84 test-takers will have their scores canceled. For more background, read this and this.
12 test-takers who posted real questions will not be able to take the GMAT for three years, according to a GMAC release. The other 72 test-takers, who posted messages saying they saw live questions, will be eligible to retake the test immediately. The GMAT emailed test-takers on Friday, according to the AP.
Now for the real impact: more than 100 MBA programs were contacted by the GMAC. It’s unclear how the schools will respond. Here are the schools affected, as reported by BusinessWeek:
Stanford: 20 score cancellations for 11 applicants; 1 graudated student’s score canceled
(”Stanford will request detailed explanations about their actions and whether they considered what they did was ethical” — MBA admissions director)
University of Chicago: 2 students admitted with canceled scores
(”‘We have professional standards and there has to be a discussion here if what happened was a violation of those standards,” — deputy dean for Chicago’s FT MBA program)
Columbia: no students with canceled scores admitted or applied
MIT Sloan: no students with canceled scores admitted or applied
Harvard: no students with canceled scores admitted or applied
