Investment Banker Starting Salary (Wha?)
By BankersBall on Oct 21, 2008 in Interviewing, Salaries
Someone out there (an undergrad) actually got a job at a bank.
As much as the rest of America would like to believe there are no bankers left, there are. And some HR person, somewhere, is even doing the unthinkable - hiring.
One offer for an analyst that we’ve heard: Barclays: $68,200 base. Location unknown.
As it’s the start of recruiting season for many, for those of you who get offers, please share your salaries below.

Interesting, when some of you say bonus, its signing bonus right? 70 plus 8 or 10 is high. HLHZ i am sure is still giving that high since they are immune to a majority of the debt that Bulge brackets have on their balance sheets….but still, 70 plus 10 seems high..I was thinking more along the lines of 60 plus 10….interesting, any more perspectives?
On Oct 23, 2008, Anon said:
Could the number 70 be high because banks would rather give that extra money up front rather than give huge bonuses later on in the year? 70 + 8 + 40 bonus = 118 vs 60 + 5 + 53 = 118. 13 k decrease in bonuses but the banker still gets paid overall the same amount.

first year is static: IBD anywhere is 60-70 plus 5-10 for relocation/signing bonus
Some banks give 65 + 5, others do 60 + 10, maybe GS does 70 + 5 but they are all in the same ballpark… the reason:
No one wants to be known as the “cheap bank” when recruiting on campus

Citi Associate: $86K (thought that was an odd number myself… not complaining though) + a $5K signing bonus. No reolcation since I am from the city originally, but I bet with relo its a full 10K ? Can anyone confirm that?
Either way I am literally laughing all the way to the bank since it’ll take me a week of working at Citi to pay off my debt from Hunter College.
I guess being a City kid is worth something on the Street these days ?

I work at a large bank, NOT one kid from my training class (which included IB, Capital Markets, and Research) was from Fordham, St. John’s, or CUNY.
A “city kid” getting a job at a large bank is the exception, not the norm.
