Bespoke suitmakers, shoemakers and shirtmakers are visiting once again. The schedule for New York is after the jump. More

Bespoke Dress Shirts in NYC

MUG had a recent newsletter on custom shirts. Here they are:

  • Ascot Chang - intense flow chart of how to order a custom shirt, but nothing about prices.
  • Upstairs at Tom Ford
  • Liste Rouge, custom shirts go for $220 - $340
  • Cego, which claims to be “New York’s Best Custom Shirt Value”
  • Geneva Custom Shirts - hey, their website may be ghetto, but they say the POTUS and Colin Powell are among their clients. ($175-$250 … according to Cigar Aficionado)
  • Turnbull & Asser - $325. As we noted before, Turnbull and Asser’s bespoke and MTM shirts both run $325 (shirt commitments are 6 for custom, 3 for MTM). Incidentally, they’re having their annual sale right now.

While hunting around for info on some of these providers, we came across others.

  • Mark Christopher, custom shirtmakers to the dealmakers, charged about $150-$250 per shirt back in the late nineties. Shirts require up to 20 fittings…
  • French clothier Dormeuil
  • Robert Talbott

For downtowners, there’s a host of options in Nolita: Seize sur Vingt, Duncan Quinn and Lord Willy’s (all in the $200ish range). Still not satisfied? Here’s that list of upcoming visits from Savile Row tailors again.

It’s Bespoke Season (Summer ‘07)

Every so often, we gather up the list of upcoming bespoke tailors making visits to the U.S. Turns out Will of A Suitable Wardrobe maintains a Visiting Artisans calendar. Note that if you are interested, now would be the time to act as there are quite a few tailors visiting in June. Here’s a selection of tailors visiting NYC in June:

  • 6/4 - 6/5, 6/11 - 6/12: Kilgour @ the Carlyle
  • 6/4 - 6/6: Steed @ the Kimberly
  • 6/11 - 6/15: Huntsman @ Barclay International

Bespoke in Nolita for You Dapper, Dapper Dandies

Nolita is bursting with stylish bespoke outfits, according to an article out of Departures mag (out of Amex Publishing), some that we have visited and others that we have not.

  • Barker Black at 198 Elizabeth St (btwn Prince & Spring) will make bespoke shoes starting next fall, but until then offers off-the-rack styles in your choice of material/color. Prices quoted in the article range from close to a thousand to several thou.
  • Duncan Quinn at 8 Spring St is run by a British expat offering an “attractive mix of impeccably turned-out corporate lawyer and rock-and-roll rogue.” Judging from their website, that description sounds about right. Ties and accessories seem a bit more edgy than the suits, which look nice enough. Custom shirts start at $275 and take 8 weeks, suits start at $2,750 and take 12 weeks. More
