In da Club: SPORTS CLUB/LA

2nd review of a chain gym for you fatties. First one of NYHRC is here.
SPORTS CLUB/LA
Locations: 3 in Manhattan — Rockefeller Center, Upper East Side and Upper West Side (”Reebok Sports Club/NY”). Rockefeller one is closed on Sundays. This review covers just the UES location.
Service: Staff are not noticeable, therefore, excel at their craft.
Luxury: Luxury manifests itself in the pure spaciousness of this place. Tons of equipment, all spread out wonderfully over many floors so you don’t have to wait, much less have something or someone in your field of vision. Non-executive locker rooms are spacious (no locks necessary, as they issue their own), with nicer-than-normal bath products if you’re not the type that brings your own. Steam rooms and saunas, of course. One gripe — what’s up with the ubiquitous carpet in locker rooms? Carpet + water = gross.
Clientele: Bastion of beautiful people, or so everyone says. As for famous people … doubt you would run into any, unless you’re an executive member, in which case you might be able to see ‘em naked in the special VIP locker rooms! Like NYHRC, also has plenty of eccentric old folk and professional types, too.
Of Note: Squash courts, basketball courts, rock-climbing wall and tennis court/roofdeck! What more could you ask for? Squash costs extra though if you’re not an executive member. Not sure if the other stuff costs $$. Pool is tiny, although the hot tub is HUGE. Cafe by the entrance.
BankersBall’s take on Equinox, coming soon …

Sportsclub LA is located on 61st and 2nd and if you ever leave there late at night it sounds like there’s some cardio-type class in the back of the main floor blasting clubby music…Truth is that the Sportsclub shares a wall with Scores and as a promo, ownership at the gym gave all Scores girls free membership. If you frequent Scores (which no overworked banker ever would) you’ll see some familiar faces on the floor working diligently to maintain their skills so as not to get rusty… Just an additional point of minor importance.
