The I’m-Cooler-Than-A.J.-Challenge

It sounds like many of you think you can do better than A.J. Apparently, all of you rock stars have cars better than Porsches and ride the white horse all night long (with models and bottles of course).

Eager beavers can and should (for all of our workaday amusement) step up and make a mini banking celebrity out of yourself. Just remember: sex on the beach is a drink. All the information is here.

The sad thing is, if you just look at the bi-weekly salary of a banker adjusted for taxes, rent, and other expenses, they’re probably making less than their non-banking friends. I’d like to know how many nights at Cain A.J. can afford before he is evicted for non-payment and has to move back to live with his parents in Edison New Jersey. Talk about compensating for a messed up childhood. Geez.

Are you jealous, childish or both?

How did this get from a nightlife video to “compensating for a messed up childhood? and eviction?” If he was really from Jersey, he’d drive a cheap Beamer and have a headband on or over-geled hair.

First place I want to go, other than home to sleep at 2am when I get out of the office, is to a bar or lounge.

Nice to see you think you know jersey so well. So tell me, were you the white girl or the asian girl with A.J. in the video.

don’t hate, just realistic. 65k a year doesn’t buy much in NYC, sadly

  8. On Oct 17, 2006, Anonymous said:

ur right it doesn’t. Does anyone bother to ask what if its not only 65k?

    we’ll never know

Give him time, it’ll be much more than that soon - on that career path

  10. On Oct 17, 2006, anony said:

what banker worth a damn makes only 65k a year? I suppose that might be right post-taxes (even that’s a stretch for anyone except a 1st year analyst), but everyone has to pay taxes. Maybe this video was shot in cleveland…or maybe there are a lot of jealous folks posting right now.

  11. On Oct 17, 2006, Anonymous said:

I definitely think it’s jealous people

Salary wasn’t mentioned in the video at all - and anyone on the street knows that 65K would only be a base salary if anything, YE bonus (a big portion of compensation) is not counted

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a 1st year analyst to break 100K total, especially at the smaller boutique banks - not bad for a young dude

Why drop the jealous hater card on those who are critical of this guy? It’s great to go out on the town every now and then, but I personally think the guy is throwing away his money if this is a weekly habit. The total comp of an analyst is not that much (sorry sell-siders it just isn’t), and unless he’s subsidizing his lifestyle with income/financial support outside of his banking job his bank account is probably so-so at best.

  13. On Oct 18, 2006, Anonymous said:

clearly there’s another revenue stream there somewhere, could be a typical overachiever

throwing away money is what wall street does best

  14. On Oct 18, 2006, Trade It said:

it never really says in the video if he’s a banker or not, just that he’s at one

he could be on the sales desk, or be a trader

  15. On Oct 18, 2006, Tell it Like it Is said:

That is exactly my point “Never Leave ur Wingman”. Even an analyst making ~$150k cannot afford to lead that lifestyle on a weekly basis. Think about how much rent is thesedays-$1500 minimum.

No 23 year-old analyst drives a Boxter unless mommy and daddy bought it for them. If you graduate college at 22, this is your 2nd year…MAYBE you got a nice 20k bonus on top of your 60k salary.

Nights at CAIN? Ya…maybe if your MD brought you as a tag-along.

P.S. Chicks drive Boxters. Be a man and get a 911.

It’s true - any lawyer on the street can tell you it’s a great school…Top 20…and statistics wise the first year pay out of school is very competitive with NYU and Columbia Law..

My gf graduated from there and she makes more than I (I went to Yale Law school)…don’t know where I went wrong
